Dark Lip Liner with a Creamy Brown Nude Lipstick or Gloss

You couldn’t look in a magazine, music video, or a model on the runway without seeing someone with a deep nude liner with a slightly lighter nude lipstick or gloss. Fast forward to today, and this is a trend you can now see anywhere in the beauty community.

Having a slightly deeper lip liner matched with a creamy nude lip can help give your lips so much dimension and help you appear to have fuller lips. Kim Kardashian was one of the many celebrities who helped bring this trend back. Her beauty brand, KKW Beauty, sells an array of lip liners, creamy nude lipsticks, and glosses for every single skin tone. If you take a look at KKW beauty, you will have no issue creating the perfect pouty nude lip for yourself.

Fresh Matte Skin

Fresh matte skin was the go-to look in the ’90s. You couldn’t turn on Friends without seeing Rachel or Monica with beautifully smooth matte skin. Luckily, you too can now achieve this look with any soft matte foundation that works well with your skin type. It doesn’t matter if it’s high-end or from the drugstore.

Matte foundations have buildable coverage and self-setting, which make them very easy to work with. One of the best matte foundations on the market is the Dior Forever Matte Foundation. It is full coverage and has a beautiful matte finish. It leaves your skin looking like a rose petal.

If you struggle with dryer skin, try spraying your beauty sponge with the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist or any other luminous setting spray of your choice to help add a little hydration to your look.

The best part about the Dior Forever foundation is that you don’t have to use a lot of setting powder, since it tends to almost set itself. It is also very easy to use as a soft coverage foundation, or you can build it up for a full glam look. Eyes

Grunge allure in the eyes!

The main focal point of this 90s makeup look is the eyes. Once you have that deep, smokey look, you’re all set.

For any classic smokey eye, you typically need three shades. The transition shade (the lightest), a darker shade to add depth, and then the darkest shade for the lid. As we all know, shimmers were the rage in the 90s, so their smokey eyes had a shimmer instead of a dark shade on the lid. You can do this with any color, but for the 90s, we’d say something a bit cooler toned like greys and purples.

1. Start with the lightest shade going in and slightly above the crease of your eyelid. You can blend this as high or far out as you’d like.

2. Take a darker shade, and focus this color on the crease and the outer edges of your eye.

3. Apply a dark shimmery shade on the lid.

4. Blend out the shimmer by applying some of the darker shade on the edges.

5. Smoke out your lower lash line using the three shades.

6. Finish the look with some black liner (or other dark colors you prefer) on both the top and bottom water lines. Don’t forget to add heavy mascara!

Lips

MAC Lipstick Matte Finish

It would not be a grunge look without the bold, dark lippie. You could go for a classic, like Sin from MAC, which is a deep blue-based red with a matte finish.

ABH Liquid Lipstick

If you want something more neutral, Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in the shade ‘Malt’ is a great deep nude.

Morphe Matte Lipstick

The last color we’d recommend if you want to go all out. That is black lipstick. Morphe has one in the same formula as the deep purple but in the shade Twisted. You can also find one from NYX and even Fenty Beauty!

Eyebrows

ABH DIPBROW Promade Waterproof Matte Brow Gel

Although we all love some of the 90s trends making a comeback, those skinny brows are something we don’t want any part in anymore. So let’s take this 90s grunge look and add a modern twist to it! A current brow trend that would look good with this is Instagram Brows. This trend features dark and bold brows with go perfectly with the theme of this look! You can get this by using a brow pomade such as Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow.

What is 90s grunge makeup?

Grunge makeup in the 1990s probably consisted of three things: a matte base, dark lipstick, and smokey eyes. Now, one of the three can be included. The grunge makeup you might see in 2022 isn’t all that far from the fashion that helped define the ’90s; its melancholy essence is still there.

What kind of makeup was popular in the 90s?

Genuine 1990s cosmetics included facial gems, frosted lips, and extremely thin eyebrows. Some of the most popular cosmetic trends from the 1990s are coming back, even though we may have once believed these looks were gone forever.

How do 90s lips look?

To do this, begin by overlining the top lip in the middle, close to Cupid’s bow. As you approach the corners of your lips, gently draw the liner down to your natural lip line. Finally, as you approach the corner of your mouth, overline the middle of your bottom lip and bring the bar to your natural lip line.
