Equipment
- 1 sheet pan
- 1 foil
- 1 cooking spray
- 1 saucepan
- 1 Spatula
Ingredients
- 1 sleeve saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups semi sweet chocolate
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- 1/2 cup festive sprinkles
Instructions
- 1. Prepare the baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly coat it with cooking spray. Alternatively, use a nonstick silicone baking mat for easier cleanup.
- 2. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and let it heat while you prepare the ingredients.
- 3. Arrange the crackers: Lay the crackers in a single layer across the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they don’t overlap.
- 4. Make the toffee mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it comes to a boil. Once boiling, allow it to cook for 3 minutes without stirring.
- 5. Coat the crackers: Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture over the crackers. Use a spatula to spread it evenly, making sure all the crackers are well coated.
- 6. Bake the toffee base: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 3-5 minutes, or until the toffee is bubbling vigorously.
- 7. Add the chocolate layer: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly across the top. Return the pan to the oven for 2-3 minutes, just long enough for the chocolate to soften. Remove from the oven and use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate into a smooth layer.
- 8. Decorate: Immediately sprinkle your choice of sprinkles over the chocolate layer while it’s still warm.
- 9. Cool and serve: Allow the toffee to cool completely. You can leave it at room temperature or place it in the refrigerator to speed up the process. Once firm, cut or break it into pieces and serve.
