Hope you’ve all been having a beautiful summer! Warm weather is the signal that outdoor time is going to make its way into your routine. Summer heralds vacations and (of course) beach time with your friends or maybe your significant other. One of the most engrained images we have in our minds is that ultimate getaway to a beach resort. Clearly, having a bathing suit is mandatory, but there are some other things that can really amp up those vacation memories. We are going to count the weekend as a Friday through Sunday situation so that you can better prepare for your dream vacation. Of course, this list is not exhaustive and everyone has different priorities, but this list will certainly help make your trip easier. Let’s take a look at this weekend packing list and see what things will help make your vacation even better!

Weekend Packing List

The Bag

Before you go anywhere, you need a bag to hold all your stuff! Let’s look at this weekender bag, which is perfect for all your needs. This bag is affordable (under $50), durable, and is made of canvas and faux leather, which makes it cruelty-free. Also, this bag is great as a carry on and with a lifetime warranty, it’s the best bet to hold all your stuff.

The Shoes

Next up, you’re going to need some flip-flops or water shoes to protect your feet. Flip flops are usually going to be the whatever of shoe wear, but actual water shoes are a whole new experience. These athletic water shoes are designed for swimming, surfing, water sports, beach sports, sailing, yoga, water aerobics sports, etc. They have a thick outsole with stronger traction to prevent you from slipping in slippery conditions. They have durable rubber soles with a comfortable thick honeycomb structure insole, which is perfect to protect your feet from getting hurt by rock and stone. This company makes many colors and has a wide range of sizes for men and women.

The Clothes

Going down the rabbit hole of clothing, it’s important to plan out what you’re doing so that you have the right clothes. Don’t forget to bring a pair of nicer shoes for fancy dinners along with a pair of beach shoes and a variety of outfits. One of the most important parts is going to be your swimsuit! We love to make a statement with our clothing, so this retro monokini hits the spot! This delightful swimsuit recalls an era where even swimming was a fancy affair. Well, this company has a luscious array of styles that are sure to tickle your fancy. When picking out a swimsuit, you want to make sure you feel supported in all the areas you want and most importantly that you feel amazing in. This is an opportunity to strut your stuff and have some fun!

The Coverage

Perhaps you want some extra coverage while you’re hanging out? Then meet this little number! This cover-up not only covers you when you want to relax, but it has pockets! Yes, you are reading that right – fun pockets! Pockets really are the dream in women’s wear, so having a coverup with pockets makes life a bit easier as well. This coverup comes in a variety of styles and colors that will tickle your fancy.

The Sunscreen

Clearly, there are parts of your body that won’t stay covered up, so it’s important to take care of the skin that is showing. Here are some facts about sunscreen:

  1. Broad-spectrum sunscreens are best! You want protection from UVA and UVB rays.
  2. Aim for a sunscreen with 30 SPF. Anything more than this is really just marketing, as multiple studies suggest the sweet spot for protection is 30 SPF.
  3. No sunscreen is waterproof or sweatproof. Sunscreens on their best days last about 80 minutes in the water, but closer to 40 minutes is the norm. You want to reapply every 2-3 hours.
  4. Cover your body. A rule of thumb is a teaspoon worth for your face and a shot’s worth for your body.
  5. Sunscreen expires, so make sure you check before you apply.
  6. Spray-on sunscreens are convenient but not always effective.

So now that we have those important facts out of the way, let’s look at some of our personal favorites!

Dermalogica

First up is this sunscreen by Dermalogica, which is an Allure beauty award winner of 2020. Dermalogica’s sheer, lightweight physical sunscreen features non-nano zinc oxide that protects against blue light, UV rays, and pollution. This broad-spectrum sunscreen is ideal for all skin types, even the most sensitive, and the formula blends easily on all skin tones. A bio-active mushroom complex and argan oil help soothe skin while also decreasing UV-induced dryness. Antioxidant green tea helps defend the skin against free radical damage.

Pacifica

Next, we have this lotion by Pacifica, which is vegan and cruelty-free. This is vegan collagen with an SPF of 30. A bonus is the hyaluronic acid, which holds 1000x its weight in water and provides extra moisture. Carefully formulated with broad-spectrum SPF 30 protection, this moisturizer blends in sheer and helps shield against the sun’s harmful UV rays. It also works well for all skin types, including ageing ones.

Additional Items

Another great way to really keep the sun out of your face is to get a nice beach hat! This floppy hat is adjustable and easily foldable for your packing needs. This hat also comes in two sizes, and there are recommendations based on your head size. The wide brim on this high-quality paper straw hat is perfect for giving you some reprieve from the intense sun on your beach vacation!

We officially have a place to back all your things, clothes, and sunscreen, so now let’s move on to a more fun item! This new waterproof Kindle is ideal for reading on the beach or really anywhere. This is the thinnest, lightest Kindle Paperwhite yet – it comes with a flush-front design and 300 ppi glare-free display that reads like actual paper even in bright sunlight. What’s also really cool about these is they come in multiple colors, which is super fun.

Another fun thing to bring for slower times is this Pick your poison card game. This game is for all ages and can be a great way to pass some time if you’re between spa appointments or other vacation outings. Also, bonus points for a weekend bag because it doesn’t take up much space at all.

Traveling Tips

All these things will definitely make your trip fun, but you also want to make sure you do the following before you travel:

  • Make sure you check with the bank that you are traveling or fraud alerts are going to pause your spending.
  • Pack all the vitamins and medicine that you’ll need for your trip; health is important too.
  • Aloe or some other burn treatment, just in case the sunscreen situation gets a bit messy.
  • Workout clothes and a “wet bag” if you’re one of those types of people who enjoy a nice workout, even on vacation. If you’re stumped on where to find a wet bag, try this one! This particular wet bag is 12×14, so there’s plenty of space.
  • Make sure you have copies of all your stay accommodations, and if you’re going on excursions, have copies of those confirmations as well. When you’re organized, your vacation really will be a breeze and restorative.
