Most Common New Year Resolutions and How to Stick to Them

Many people get stuck on what their New Year’s resolutions should be. If you’re struggling in the idea department, here are some of the best and most common New Year resolutions to consider.

Get Healthy

Run on the beach, it’s the perfect way to get some exercise with a view!

You know you have heard this one time and time again. Why? Because it’s a classic. Not only that, but it’s essential. Living a healthy lifestyle is more important now than ever, especially with the Coronavirus still running rampant. There are many ways to get fit in 2024, including:

  • Start a new diet. Maybe you overeat fast food or junk food. Now’s the time to say goodbye to these unhealthy options. Replace your favorite goodies with a fruit or vegetable instead. Instead of rolling through the fast-food line, whip up something similar (and healthier) at home. There are a lot of great copycat recipes out there for those wanting to improve their diet and health resolutions.
  • Consider taking supplements. Healthy lifestyle habits are great, but supplements can take your health resolutions to the next level. Some people might need something specific, such as a biotin supplement, to improve their nails and hair. Others can get by with basic yet life-changing supplements to encourage a healthier lifestyle. Make sure you’re buying healthy and science-backed products.
  • Get active. Many people opt to join a gym, which is excellent if you want to be around like-minded supportive people with similar goal properties. But you can always opt for working out at home, going for walks or runs around the block, or doing something creative like joining a martial arts or dance class.
  • Make a goal. Regardless of the steps you take, you need to be prepared. Set a plan that will motivate you to stick to your goals. Perhaps a monthly slice of cheesecake or a shopping spree?

Save/Earn More Money

Get those savings started!

Money is another word brought up around “New Year New Me” resolutions. But this is a pretty heavy goal. When it comes to taking steps to save money and earn more money altogether, you need to have a game plan – preferably written down. Did you know that there are many benefits related to writing things down? Give it a try, and consider adding these to your list.

  • Cut out the fluff. Are you subscription-obsessed? Can’t seem to stay off Postmates and Grubhub? Have an affinity for shopping at Forever 21 or Nike every other weekend? It’s time to look at where you should cut out spending.
  • Take up side jobs. Side gigs became immensely popular in 2023, and their popularity doesn’t seem to be dissipating anytime soon. If your goal is for more bucks in 2024, consider a side job. There are endless possibilities, from freelancing, reselling, and photography to online tutoring.
  • Earn a promotion. If there is a potential promotion on the horizon, 2024 is your year to go for it. Do whatever it takes to get ahead in your career. What’s the worst that could happen? An extra 10k per year? Oh, no! (Shudders)
  • Consider a new career. Maybe your job isn’t working out. There are no prospects, and you’re unhappy. Well, don’t take that unhappiness into next year. As long as you can take time off from your current job to find another, go for it.
  • Start a savings account. Plenty of people have savings accounts, but there’s not much hiding inside. That’s because there is no plan. In 2024, consider writing down your income and expenses. Whatever is leftover should be placed in a savings account and not touched unless you need it.

Spend More Time with Friends and Family Members

New year
Doing a picnic can be a great way to get quality time!

We all know the term “people make time for what they want.” Unfortunately, plenty of us (myself included) get lost in work and other activities, leaving relationships on the back burner. In 2024, we’re going to work harder at spending more time with friends and family members – especially in an era where many of us had to stay away for an extended period.

How can you do this? The easiest way is to simply engage in calls with friends. It doesn’t matter if it’s a childhood friend you’ve wanted to reconnect with or a family friend you’ve been missing during the holiday season. Pick up the phone and give them a jingle. From there, set up a day to hang out and bring the relationship back to life.

Don’t slack as time goes on, though. It’s easy to get back into a rut and lose sight of those same relationships as the year goes by. Make a plan to add “spending time with friends and family members” to your schedule. It could be a specific day and time or a bit more spontaneous (hey, there’s another great idea for a New Year’s Me goal!).

Out with the Old, In with the New

Good habits will make all other resolutions easier to stick with!

If you’re struggling with something wrong for you – such as smoking, excessive drinking, gossiping, or over-bleaching your hair – it’s time to let these things go. You know precisely what I’m talking about.

It’s time to ditch the New Year Same Me platform when it comes to bad habits. Start the year off with a push to stop bad habits. But remember – it’s okay to allow room for error. As long as you’re working on it and have a plan to succeed, it matters. You might consider joining a community of individuals going through the same problem to encourage you.

At the same time, it’s time to replace bad habits with good ones. Or simply pick up a new habit or hobby altogether! Maybe instead of smoking cigarettes, you could go for a walk. Instead of drinking with your buddies, take a class to learn a new skill like golfing.

Even if you’re not replacing an old habit with a better one, you can still jump on board with these goal properties. Learning a new skill or hobby – whether it’s chess, a new language, or knitting – can fulfill your life further. Who doesn’t want to learn new things and broaden their horizons? Pick something that interests you and get to it!

Final Words

It’s true – 2024 should be all about “New Year New Me,” and it doesn’t matter how cliche or overdone it is. The New Year New Me slogan aims to improve your life in the next year, becoming the best person you can be – and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Which one of these resolutions will you add to your New Year’s Me game plan?
