Silky smooth legs have been a luscious vibe sought by so many. Why smooth legs? Well, the 1940s became a stronghold for the beauty trend. Everywhere, women took this trend from a fad to a custom thing women do. Women surveyed in 1968 revealed that 98% of women aged 15-44 routinely shaved their legs. That’s a lot of people! Hair removal methods have since varied from shaving, waxing, threading, and sugaring to even hair removal creams. There’s a lot of options for someone looking to have silky, smooth legs, so we’re going to break it down for you!

NADS

350

Let’s start with this cream by NADS, which is well known for removing hair from all parts of the body. This item is suitable for all skin types, works in as little as four minutes, and is ready to use. Ideal for use just before a shower, it painlessly removes the shortest hair for several days of smooth, hair-free skin. NADS is ideal for body, underarm, arms, bikini, and leg hair. Also, one of the best parts is the natural extracts of melon, aloe vera, avocado oil, and honey to help soothe the skin.

Veet

Next up in the cream realm is this Veet hair removal cream, one that we’ve tried and loved. It is best suited for sensitive skin, as it is enriched with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E that helps moisturize and soothe your skin and also is aluminum-free. It even has a perfect fragrance of vanilla and passion fruit for a satisfying and indulging experience and comes in a handy pump. We’d mention that the pump is super easy to use and one reason we enjoyed this product so much. There’s nothing like trying to apply hair removal cream with your hand and then having to grab a slippery tube that makes the process that much more arduous. Finally, this cream was designed specifically for sensitive skin, making it perfect to use for legs, arms, underarms, and bikini hair removal.

We totally get that maybe hair removal creams aren’t for you. This is definitely a painless method, but that also means the hair does grow back, meaning you would have to repeat the cream process. Now some hair removal creams can range from $5 and even up to $40, so budget would need to be something that you look at if cost is a factor. While the fragrance is generally pleasant, there is still some chemical-like smell, so if you’re going out, consider doing this the night before rather than the day of the outing. Also, you want to be careful not to put any of these hair removal creams on open skin abrasions, as they will burn like a devil in church.

Razors

Let’s move on to a more traditional way of hair removal, razors. Razors can be great for some and horrific for others. The biggest takeaway from razors is to change your blade.

Your blade should be changed according to the following:

  1. If you shave every day, replace your blade every 1 to 2 weeks.
  2. In case you shave every other day, replace your blade every 2 to 3 weeks.
  3. If you shave twice a week, replace your blade every 4 to 6 weeks.

A dull razor blade can lead to more nicks and cuts, razor burn, and just overall skin irritation. Also, never shave on dry skin, or you’re going to have the most intense irritation of your life. Razors need wetness and some kind of shaving cream. Let’s look at a few that really stand the test of multiple uses!

Gillette

Welcome to the Gillette Venus Platinum Smooth Handle Razor. This baby packs a wallop with 5 blades and a pivoting system that aids in curves and crevices. Additionally, this bad boy has a lubricating strip for an extra glide factor along with a water-activated ribbon of moisture around the blade that helps protect from nicks and cuts. This razor is ideal for most jobs and really is a smooth use razor.

Schick Razor

Continuing on our razor trail, we have the Schick Intuition Revitalizing Moisture Razor. This razor is heavy-duty and does not come to play! It easily lathers and moisturizes during shaving – no need for soap, shave gel, or body wash! This 4 blade razor includes another pivoting head and has a unique skin conditioning solid that leaves skin smooth and radiant.

Other Alternatives

So we’ve done razors and creams, what about newer things to the market like sugaring? Sugaring is the process of making a sticky paste from lemon, sugar, and water. The paste in then applied to the area where there is hair, and then you allow the paste to dry. Once the paste is dry, you move the paste in the direction of the hair growth.

This method doesn’t require a stick or cloth and quite frankly can be done pretty quickly with an experienced sugaring expert. The best part about this method is that it contains no chemicals or additives, can be easily done at home, and removes the hair at the bulb for longer-lasting results. However, you’ll need about an eighth- to a quarter-inch of hair growth in order for the sugar to be able to catch the hairs. Just like with waxing, you’ll have to be fine with a little hair in between appointments.

Waxing is another method that probably makes you cringe because of all the horror stories, but waxing has come a long way! There are now specialty waxes that won’t burn your skin and are actually gentle. Many waxers have high-quality products and prep your skin for the best and longest-lasting results. We do not recommend at-home kits for waxing, especially for more sensitive areas. It’s also important to note that waxing those sensitive spots gets easier with time.

So clearly, it’s important to pick the right razor or hair removal method for you to achieve silky smooth legs. However, did you know there are other things you can also do to achieve the no-hair look?

Here’s a handy list to reference:

  1. Drink plenty of water. Hydrated skin is skin that glows.
  2. Exfoliate! Yep, exfoliate before and after! Why? So you can avoid ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs can be especially irritating, as they can cause itchy, painful bumps post-shaving. Exfoliating allows dead skin cells to make space for new ones. The key here is not to exfoliate more than three times a week!
  3. Moisturize. Yes, your body needs all the water and moisture, so lather up post-shave exfoliation. This can go a long way in maintaining sleek skin post hair removal for a longer time than you thought.
  4. Read ingredients. If you have any kind of allergy, you need to make sure what you’re putting on post-hair removal won’t cause you to have an allergic reaction.

Whatever method you decide on, it needs to be the one you resonate most with. Silky smooth legs are not mandatory to have a life well-lived, but they can be fun to have. Many of these methods can be used for any part of your body, and nobody knows your body more than you. Regardless of what you decide, use this handy guide to maintain your silky, sleek hair look.
