A nose job, also known as a rhinoplasty, is a standard and elective plastic surgery procedure. Many people decide on this operation to correct their nose’s aesthetic appearance; however, it is not always aesthetic in nature. Many rhinoplasty operations are performed to correct specific breathing issues or other forms of obstruction inside the nose. However, for this article, we will be focusing on celebrity nose jobs – specifically those who elected to undergo rhinoplasty to improve their looks.

What Is a Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic plastic surgery treatment for changing and reconstructing the shape of your nose. This is typically done when one has a misalignment, a drooping bridge, or a bony prominence.

There are two major categories of plastic surgery performed with this procedure:

  1. Reconstructive surgery, which restores the former shape of your nose to its previous form.
  2. Cosmetic surgery, which changes the condition of your nose for aesthetic reasons.

Also, patients can have a rhinoplasty done for aesthetic reasons, such as correcting a sizable nasal tip or increasing facial volume.

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct various conditions, including an improperly shaped nose, a large bridge, or an excessive projection of the nasal septum. The size and placement of the rhinoplasty can vary.

In general, a physician like a Dallas plastic surgeon take a complete look at your situation to decide on a treatment plan. For example, if you have a drooping bridge, the surgeon will be able to use some of his or her skill set to straighten the bridge and then create a more even bridge for your nose by stitching or grafting tissue onto your bridge.

If you have a broad nasal tip, a surgeon may implant tissue or muscles to lengthen and enlarge the end. This is called a nasal tip lift, and if done correctly, it can make a significant difference in how your nose looks.

How Long Does It Take to Recover?

As with any procedure, a recovery period is critical before and after rhinoplasty. It can take anywhere from two to four weeks to get over any pain that you feel following surgery.

The recovery time for rhinoplasty is something you should discuss with your surgeon to have a clear idea of what it will be like. Your doctor will evaluate the recovery process with you and talk about any medications that may be needed.

You may be given pain medication for the first week to help alleviate your discomfort. This should be continued every day until your physician determines that you have reached a healthy state.

Celebrity Nose Jobs

On some occasions, it is pretty easy to ascertain whether or not a celeb has undergone plastic surgery to improve the look of their nose (or they may have said as much). In other cases, it isn’t. We’re going to go over which celebrities are rumored to have undergone the procedure.

Halle Berry

This celebrity falls into the realm of not knowing for sure whether they have undergone surgery.

However, over time, some believe that her nose has become noticeably thinner and narrower from how she looked during her younger years.

Ryan Gosling

It appears from before and after photos that Ryan Gosling, the star of blockbusters including La La Land and Blade Runner 2049, has corrected his hooked nose.

The procedure he had seems to have been to take out the crook in his nose to create a straighter looking bridge.

Jennifer Aniston

We all know and love Jennifer Aniston from her fantastic portrayal of Racheal Green in the successful TV series Friends.

Her nose job story seems to be as a result of a medical rather than a cosmetic one. In 2007, she admitted to having a deviated septum, which obstructed sleep.

Tyra Banks

Early in her modeling career, Tyra banks decided on augmenting her features by choosing to have a nose job. Although she has also admitted as much, it is clear from photos of her early shoots how much her nose has changed.

Ashlee Simpson

Ashley Simpson acknowledged that she chose to go under the knife to improve the look of her nose. However, her father also noted that while she wanted to change its appearance for aesthetic reasons, there was also a medical reason for doing so, which allowed her to breathe far more easily.

Lisa Kudrow

Another Friends alumna, Lisa Kudrow, had her nose job early on in her life, way before she became an actress. Describing the change, she is quoted as saying: “I went from, in my mind, hideous, to not hideous.”

Mickey Rourke

Perhaps the most famous male actor who has had cosmetic surgery, Mickey Rourke is no stranger to going under the knife to change his looks. In 2017, he decided on moving the attention to his nose and had a successful nose job.

Courtney Love

The famous former lover of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and a successful singer in her own right, Courtney Love told Jimmy Kimmel in 2014 that she underwent surgery in her early twenties. She also spoke of how she perceived it to change her world for the better.

Ashley Tisdale

One of the main stars of the breakaway Disney hit High School Musical has also spoken of having rhinoplasty to correct a deviated septum.

Dianna Agron

The star of Glee, Dianna, is one of the outsiders on this list. This is because she chose to have a nose job as a result of breaking her nose twice! The first time was when she was accidentally punched, and the second time while filming an episode of Glee. She had to get her nose corrected to maintain her look.

Summary

Although rhinoplasty is somewhat of a standard procedure to have these days, it should not be taken lightly.

As with this list of celebrity nose jobs, some decided on the procedure for cosmetic reasons. However, a decent number had to operate due to medical reasons, one of which is a deviated septum.

If you plan on getting a nose job, you should make sure that you understand all the pertinent risks involved and speak with a qualified rhinoplasty surgeon about the process.
